Words burrowed from “I Will Raise My Daughter To Be A Goddess, Not A Doormat” by Chelsey Reardon, a poem that I stumbled across shortly after finding out that I was going to be having my first child last year, and that she was going to be a girl. The concept of raising a daughter is both beautiful and terrifying to me, but this poem makes me feel a little more ready for the challenge every time I read it, and my hope is that this determination, and the strength and bravery of all the wonderful female-identifying people that I have the honour and the pleasure to know, reflects onto her as she navigates the world.
